ABOUT FLEXOFOLD
Flexofold Propellers was established in 1992 in Egtved, Denmark, to design and build propellers that are low in drag, produce high thrust in forward and reverse, and are manufactured from the highest quality materials and to be long lasting. The company founder, Jack Skrydstrup, started the business after many years experience in hydrodynamics, most recently as Managing Director of Gori Propellers.
The first Flexofold Propeller was shipped in 1993 and was quickly recognized as a superior product. As you can see above, the 1995 Cruising World Magazine test of propellers confirmed that evaluation. Not to be satisfied, Flexofold introduced a new blade shape in 1997. The wider blade design and redistributed mass improved both forward and reverse performance. Also introduced in that year was a 3-blade design using similar design parameters. A comparison test conducted by Technische Universitat Berlin confirmed the improvement.
In 1998, we introduced an even lower drag Racing Propeller. This was quickly adopted on boats like the Farr 40 where the absolute lowest drag and good performance under power are required. Because of this attention to our original objectives, Flexofold is now being used as standard equipment by a rapidly increasing number of boat builders including X-Yachts, Dehler, Elan, Malo, Najad, Swan, J-Boats, Morris, Grand Soleil and many others. Some additional manufacturers also offer Flexofold as an option on their boats.
In 2000, Flexofold established its first wholly owned sales and service office in Marblehead, Massachusetts, USA. Chuck Angle, who has been working with Flexofold products since 1997, manages the office. Warehoused in that facility is a significant inventory of propellers and parts that insure timely delivery and service to our customers in that part of the world.
The propellers are manufactured in Egtved in a single-purpose factory, equipped with modern CNC equipment. To help keep costs down, a robot is used to insure continuous, overnight operation of the most critical machinery. Where appropriate, sub-contractors are used to further enhance plant efficiency. Our goal is to bring you the best propellers made for sailboats at a reasonable price.
